Anatomy of a Mashup ➔ “Definitive Daft Punk”

A true feast for the eyes and ears of music lovers everywhere, this project was developed by Sydney-based web technologist Cameron Adams to give the general public a better understanding of the minute details and nuances that go into constructing a complex mashup from tiny pieces of songs. Using “Definitive Daft Punk”, a 7-minute mashup that he created himself based off Daft Punk’s complete discography, Adams exposes the entire structure of the 23-song piece, revealing everything from the cutting and layering to levels and equalization. Felix Cartal was born with a passion for hard hitting electronic music. With influences ranging from the heavy hitting distortion of The Bloody Beetroots and Boys Noize, to the techno influences of Vitalic, Felix has created an amalgamation of electronic genres which results in a unique listening experience for home and live audiences alike. THE SHOES ➔ CRACK MY BONES

If The Shoes really really were a pair of shoes, they would, without question, be sparkling electric blue, and unashamedly chic. They would, obviously, be dancing shoes. Luckily for us, The Shoes are not a pair of shoes, but are in fact a pair of electroclash dance pioneer DJs, from, oh but of course, the mean streets of France.

The Shoes, aka Guillaume and Benjamin, finally released their colourful debut album “Crack My Bones”. The record features the likes of Gonzales, Esser, CockNBullKid, Primary 1 and Wave Machines and sounds really good!

The French duo have been friends since they were 15; a pairing, they say, that was based on ‘a love of music, girls and being too cool for école’. Happily, this relationship has continued, spawning their debut album which is full of electro-tinged indie-pop.

Production collective Cookin’ Soul turns in a sublime mixtape project, entitled The Revolution Is Being Televised in order to pay homage to the late and great Gil Scott-Heron, who passed away this past Friday, May 27. 

The piece compiles some of the singer-songwriter’s most known songs.

TIM BURTON ➔ LACMA EXHIBITION

Over the years, movie director Tim Burton has reinvented filmmaking in Hollywood. Taking inspiration from pop culture, fairy tales and gothic tradition, he has incorporated these elements into his work as an expression of his own personal vision and developed a unique new genre in the process. 

A brand new retrospective exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art explores the full range of Burton’s creative work, not only as a film director, but also as an artist, illustrator, photographer and writer. The exhibition will contain a wide range of objects borrowed from various studio archives and private collections including more than 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, storyboards, costumes and other objects. The retrospective is scheduled to be on display from May 29 through October 31, 2011.
